Lean on Me: Cancer through a Carer's Eyes, a book written by Lorraine Kember, is about her husband's battle with mesothelioma (asbestos related cancer) and her emotional journey as she cares for him. It includes helpful information on topics such as: cancer pain management, symptom control, palliative care, quality of life and coping with grief.
 
Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres
 
Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres are information centres for older people, people with disabilities and those who provide care and services. Centres provide free and confidential information on community aged care, disability and other support services available locally, interstate or anywhere within Australia.
 
Carer Allowances and Payments - Centrelink
 
Carer allowances are available from Centrelink for people who care at home for someone who has a disability, is frail aged, or chronically ill. There is no income or assets test.  Carer payments are available from Centrelink for carers who are unable to support themselves through work because of the demands of their carer role.  Payments are means tested.  Ph: 13 27 17

Carers Australia is the national peak body for carers.  The website includes a range of useful information, resources and links.

Carers NSW is a government funded association supporting carers who look after relatives or friends who have a disability, a chronic illness or are frail aged. Its mission is to resource and empower carers to provide the best care they can while maintaining their own good health and well being.
 
  Carers Queensland
 
Carers Queensland (also known as Queensland Council of Carers) is the peak body for carers in Queensland and is dedicated to advancing the recognition of the carers role.
 
  Carers Victoria
 
Carers Victoria offers direct services to support carers in their caring role, as well as education, training and advocacy programs to increase awareness of carers and carer's issues.
 
  Carers WA
 
The Carers Association of Western Australia, known as Carers WA, is a non-profit community based organisation and registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of the estimated 200,000 family carers living in Western Australia.
